Jerry Manuel’s Vision
Playing, coaching and managing at the major and minor league levels has etched Jerry’s desire to teach the least of these in our midst. Matthew 20:26 says “whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.” This biblical principle of servant leadership is the ethos of the Foundation and the key to building the next generation of great leaders.
In the past thirty years, Jerry has seen a significant decline from some 33%, to now 8% African Americans at the highest level of major league baseball. Keenly aware that the breakdown starts at the lower levels of the game, the JMF is committed to repair the breach.
The JMF aims to establish clinical school based programs across the countries in the major MLB cities. By combining education, character development, and training of baseball skills. The JMF will increase the number of African American men becoming leaders and ignite a new-found passion and commitment to pursuing America’s favorite pastime at all levels.
